three.

I did end up going into work.  I really debated either calling off or just not showing up.  I woke up with Z and ate bagels with her for breakfast, she was being so sweet and playing on her new leap pad, and it was snowy out and cold, but I sucked it up and went in.  It was totally fine as soon as I got there.  I love the women in my department.  I like interacting with other women, I like being treated respectfully and like a peer, not the baby sister or the youngest daughter, and not the main caretaker.  Just an average equal.

one.

one.

Today, I’ve been considering memories, time, and truth.

It seems hard to grasp that the choices I make today will become not only my own memories, but also the memories of my daughter.

Tonight, my parents- divorced 13 years- both came over to our house for dinner.  Dad brought pizza and wine, I turned on a Christmas playlist on Spotify. (Because both of my parents are Christians and still don’t know that I’m not, and also I mean, hey- who doesn’t like a little Bing Crosby?)  My mom was achey all evening and the main factor in inviting my dad over was to keep him in good headspace and out of a bar.  But it ended up being a great night.  Hubby ate and hung out a bit before work, and Dad stayed over for awhile (Mom is spending the night), chatting and reminiscing about what their Christmas traditions were as kids.  (Answer: lots of Seventies-y things, like laying down in the back seat while my Papaw drove drunk home on icy roads, and how my dad’s family used to soend Christmas even with family friends because both patriarchs of both families worked at the same bakery and so they’d both go out to the tavern together after work- yeah, on Christmas eve.) I just wanted to jot this down very quickly even though my phone battery is on 4% and even though little Z is sleeping soundly next to me and I’m super exhausted myself, because these are memories, good memories.  And I don’t have a good track record with keeping hold of them.  In fact, my brain is like a self-filtering file system; iy just ditches anything it doesn’t find absolutely vital to keep.  (That, and times I’ve embarrassed myself and made myself look like a jackass in front of people-you know, to replay on nights I can’t sleep, for funsies.)

Tomorrow, we – my entire family unit – are going out to eat for an early holiday and then back to Mamaw and Papaw’s to open presents.  Me, Momma, anf Z are going to bake cookies and watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the Boris Karloff version) (just found out it’s him in that so now I gotta say it all the time) and Momma and Dad are going (together!) to run Christnas errands and do a little last minute Christmas shopping and eat tacos.  Weird weird weird.  I’m looking forward to tomorrow and I’ll write again after we get home.

Happy Dragons!
